Farmers in Catchment Sensitive Farming areas can benefit from an increased grant scheme this year to help improve their facilities and benefit water quality.
Following three years of high demand for the Capital Grant Scheme, DEFRA has increased the budget by 50%, to £7.5m, with up to £8000 available to each successful applicant.
Grants are available in 50 catchment areas across England, with each area having different target priorities. These include reducing dirty water runoff from cattle yards, reducing sediment build up in water courses, increasing slurry storage and limiting runoff and soil wash from fields. Eligible projects range from covering livestock yards and slurry stores to resurfacing of gateways, feeding areas and tracks, and installing sediment ponds or drainage works.
